Choosing the right Sport
Sports are known to be fun and an interesting way of spending time with friends.
How many classes have you bunked for that one extra goal?
Basketball being my favorite sport is a way of exercising and making new friends wether it was my initial days in a new school or my experience for same in the college. Even though basketball is a sport, many people see it as a passion. Being a teenager, basketball has played a huge impact in my life from just being a hobby to a strong obsession. I remember how initially i picked up the ball just because it was “cool” to be in the team. It was an eventual turning of events that changed my entire view not only for this game but the word TEAM. It’s not fun, believe me when I say it, it’s life…it’s an entire family.
The one thing that flipped me over was when I participated in this first tournament of my life and our team lost the semi finals facing all sorts of misbehavior but still not losing our calm…sportsman playing on the field is not expected outplays foul. He must cooperate and finally, if his team suffers a defeat he must not lose self-confidence but must shake hands with his adversaries cheerfully.
That is the spirit I practically became aware of changing my point of view completely. When a sportsman has acquired these qualities on the playground, he will naturally exhibit them in the wider sphere of life. If he has truly imbibed the lessons taught to him by sports, he will be very honest and fair in his dealings with other people. He will never see his enemies below belt. He will always obey his superiors. He will never feel heartbroken on account of the disappointments. If he shows these qualities in his general conduct, he has learnt how live truly. His life is successful and he will be admired everywhere. Who ever knew that the ordinary life of a son of waterman could hit the blockbusters just coz of his game? For those who didn’t get it, I’m referring to Dhoni…who ever thought that a north east poor boxer could be given so much importance? Mary Kom…milkha singh, sania mirza, Virat Kohli, each and every one of them…and what made them so popular? Just the game. The passion they had to do anything for that one sport! I’m glad to see the facilities world wide, the luxuries and opportunities that nations provide encouraging the upliftment and development of players. From giving jobs to recognition worldwide, even the govt. is there to support your right sport! The right sport is anything you do that teaches you to be a better person when on field….that shows you the real meaning of commitment to something and the feeling of being a part of team.
You play you lose you fall you laugh…you live! Together… All work and no play made jack a dull boy…no not because he was practically unfit… But because he never experienced the emotions that are associated. Go play your game its just never too late!
