Art Of Listening
It is through the creative process of listening that we at once love and are loved
It was almost four years from now, I remember I was crying on the staircase, not sure whether it was because of all the sadness that was piled up within me for months or the built up agitation of every unsaid word in my mind, tears rolled bit by bit. Now why is that an important event, right? How does it even count as a memorable memory! Well, what happened next changed me. The more I wanted to be heard, the more I felt alone, and eventually the more it hurt. But then came running my best friend, my pet, my Snoopy! He is just a pug, not a human, not a witty creature, just a dog! He sat there next to me, silently. Words started flowing out of my mouth, they were not making any sense to that poor guy, but he didn’t move a bit, I poured my heart down to him, every bit of emotion within and every unsaid word that longed for forever to come out just once ran out of me. I remember he cried back, in that one moment he felt me! and in that one moment, I felt good! He just did one thing and healed me. he LISTENED!
See that’s the day when I learned about the ultimate healing power that is present everywhere inside everything. Sometimes, you don’t have to think of a solution of how to help your friend dealing with the divorce of his parents, you don’t have to give an answer to your colleague who is in terrible stress because the boss just threatened him with that almost signed documents of firing him. Every pain does not come with a prescribed treatment, but every word wants to be felt, and every person can be healed, don’t let them feel lonely. You got to LISTEN!
Every one of us has that little fountain of imaginations and dreams, blooming thoughts and wild fantasies. It is when people really listen to us, with quiet, fascinated attention, that the little fountain begins to work again, to blossom in the most surprising way.
This friend is talking. Then be quiet. There is endless time. You will hear it, every word. Then suddenly you begin to hear not only what people are saying, but also what they are trying to say, and you sense the whole truth about them. And you sense existence, not just the object, but the whole universe revolving around them.
Remember, it is not enough just to will to listen to people. One must really listen. Only then does the magic begin.
I wanted to write about poets, who felt the need of this power much earlier, I wanted to pen down the great idols and leaders and many other people who actually revealed true mysteries within the world and within themselves by letting not only their ears but their heart and mind open too. But these are just few big things that everyone tells us everywhere. I want to tell you guys about my friend, who does nothing but sits online even at the darkest hours just to hear my mind out, doing nothing just feeling the depths of my sufferings or heights of my achievements, and that’s how I feel truly appreciated, in this big wide world, I actually belong somewhere.
Don’t you want to feel that? And don’t you want to make someone else feel the beauty of being heard? Free that bird caged behind awkwardness and shyness for so long!
When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand. Ideas actually begin to grow within us and come to life. You know how if a person laughs at your jokes you become funnier and funnier, and if he does not, every tiny little joke in you weakens up and dies. Well, that is the principle of it. It makes people happy and free when they are listened to.
If you are reading this, I want to make sure that I AM WILLING to hear you out, comment below and feel belonged. If those words have waited too long, let it be the end of it!
Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if only you remember to turn on the lights! And words can be heard in most unexpected ways, if only you learn to listen the silence!
